"The Well of Souls" is a collection of short stories by William S. Burroughs. In the story, a man is in a room alone with a woman when the lights go out. When they come back on, he has been stabbed and killed.

The woman gets up and leaves the room, leaving a small boy behind in the dark. When she returns to the room, there is blood on her hands and he is gone. She eventually leaves the room again, only to return to find him dead in a closet where he was locked away from her.

In the end, she decides that she has had enough and walks away from the house without looking back or saying goodbye to anyone else.
